What is MATHCOUNTS?

The MATHCOUNTS Manhattan chapter competition is an annual showcase for the knowledge, skill, speed and teamwork of the top Mathletes from middle schools throughout Manhattan.

By participating in MATHCOUNTS, these schools demonstrate their commitment to academic excellence and provide their students with an incredible opportunity to strive through friendly competition.

In 2020, we will host 400 students from 48 participating Manhattan schools, along with their coaches and 65 local volunteers.

MATHCOUNTS participants typically remember the competition years later and often tell us that it was one of the best experiences of their middle school years.  Other reasons to participate:

    • MATHCOUNTS is a challenging and fun way for students to boost their math skills and analytical abilities while vying for prizes and a chance to advance to the next level of competition.

    • MATHCOUNTS gives students an opportunity to share common interests with new friends from their own school, develop teamwork skills and meet other bright students from schools throughout Manhattan.

    • Participants report a sense of accomplishment from setting and working toward goals.

    • Coaches find the experience beneficial for numerous reasons.  They have the opportunity to work with enthusiastic math students, keep their own problem-solving skills sharp, incorporate concepts and problems from coaching materials in class, develop a network of other passionate Manhattan math teachers and bring favorable recognition to their schools.
